Project brief
The impressive Twickenham Stadium in London is the home of English Rugby. With a seating capacity for 82,000 spectators, it is the largest dedicated Rugby venue in the world.
Twickenham is committed to ensuring that the International programme of Rugby and other events can continue despite the unpredictability of the English weather.
In preparation for upgrading the facilities and hosting a Rugby World Cup, a decision had been taken to upgrade the hot water and heating systems and build a dedicated external boiler house to provide underground heating for the playing surface, the main stand and corporate hospitality areas.
Our design
A1 Flue Systems were appointed by Shepherd Engineering Services. SES is one of the leading independent building services companies in the UK, specialising in the design, installation and facilities management of bulding services solutions for multi-million pound projects.
We provided a 200mm x 1200mm rectangular stainless fan dilution system with c/w 1120 diamater twin motor fan and attenuators. The system serves three Hoval SR Plus boilers with a combined Kw rating of over 6000Kw, that are housed within a new, purpose built, boiler house.
Twickenham now has a modern and reliable underground heating system and an efficient and effective chimney flue which meets all building control and environmental standards.
Testimonial
When working for a prestigious name and venue, such as the home of English Rugby, it was vital to ensure our contractors had the same commitment to quality and service. We chose A1 Flues for their knowledge and past expertise in providing heating systems for large sports stadiums. The flue dilution system was manufactured to a very high standard of quality and fitted exactly to our design specifications and deadlines by skilled professionals.
