Eclipse Blinds, Glasgow

The project

Founded in 1970, Eclipse Blinds at Inchinnan near Glasgow supplies fabrics, machinery and systems to the window blinds and canopies industries across the UK. It is part of the world’s largest blinds group, Hunter Douglas, in the Netherlands, distributing to 40 countries. The Inchinnan site covers 14 acres. It houses business administration, design and development, a finishing plant, warehousing and distribution. Eclipse Blinds brought in Protech Heating to upgrade its on-site energy facilities. Protech, based in Glasgow, is a Scottish Contractor of the Year award winner. In turn, Protech appointed A1 Flue Systems.

Our design

Protech Heating and its client relied on A1 Flue Systems to carry out extensive works. We were to connect to a new Spencer air handling unit through eight 400mm-diameter couplings, rising to a cross-branch with flanged access doors, then horizontally to a main header system – with incremental increases in diameter to 900mm. We fitted a vertical riser with fan through the plant room roof to termination. In phase two we were involved with connection to an existing flue and a new flue riser, with a 900mm diameter, and connecting to a repositioned external heat recovery unit rising to a 90-degree elbow, then horizontally through offsets and out through a wall to a plenum box.

Comments

“This was quite a challenging installation. We were involved with large-diameter flues, never easy to work with, but the challenge was most enjoyable. As usual, we were well up to the task. Protech Hearing and Eclipse Blinds were delighted with how the project played out. Everything progressed without any kind of hitch and it was all done while the factory kept on working. We just got on with the job, undistracted and without distracting others.”
