The new children’s hospital (NCH) project, comprising the main hospital on the shared campus at St James’s and two paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre’s CHI at Connolly, Blanchardstown, and CHI at Tallaght. The NCH Project will have a significant impact on 25% of the population and is a Government priority, it is the most significant capital investment project in the healthcare system undertaken in Ireland. It will bring together the services currently provided at three children’s hospitals into a modern, custom-designed, digital, hospital at St James’s campus, to deliver the best care and treatments for Ireland’s sickest children and young people. As well as playing a central role in the provision of acute paediatric healthcare services, the new children’s hospital will be the primary center for paediatric education, training and research in Ireland. It will be a child-centered, world-class facility that will support innovation and excellence in paediatric healthcare, and create an environment that is supportive of children, young people, their families and the hospital’s staff.
Our design
A1 Flue Systems were provided with concept drawings for a scheme to support 16 flues serving multiple appliances. We were asked to use our technical expertise to design, manufacture and install all horizontal flues which included an appropriate flue structure over 52m tall.
We designed and installed a totally independent support mast 3.5m x 3.5m over 52m tall. The final installation comprised of 16 flues serving 5 Generators, 3 LTHW boilers, a Future LTHW boiler, 2 Steam boilers, 3 CHPs, 3 SJH steam boilers and the horizontal sections for the grey box installation.
We had to ensure the longevity of the structure and that it could be accessed easily for maintenance. A fully platformed access staircase was designed within the flue structure.
Testimonial
“On such a high-profile project that would become a symbol for Dublin we had to be assured that all sub-contracting partners could contribute to the smooth running of the project to ensure it was finished on time and within budget.
We were very impressed with the technical expertise A1 Flue Systems were able to provide and how well they managed works during their part of the construction phase. There was a lot of bespoke design and manufacturing required and the quality of their final installation was extremely high.”
