1970's
Colin Moir founded the company in 1973.
When we started trading as A1 Sheet Metal Co based in a very small unit located just off the A1, in Elkesley, hence the name! After working on such projects like Windsor Castle, Bonos House, Rod Stewarts House and Sandringham Estate, around 18 months later the business was relocated to an old army nissen hut on Boughton Industrial Estate.
1980's
Following the demise of UK coal mining.
District heating systems started to evolve from solid fuel to gas appliances and with that came the need for more stainless-steel flue systems. A1 Flue Systems purchased more machinery, equipment and vehicles to power the growth of the company with many unique projects delivered including Denby Pottery, Port Talbot Steel Works, Rowntree’s and British Steel. Our flagship flanged delta product was introduced to the market.
1990's
In 1993 we merged with Bridge Flue System Limited.
The name became A1 Bridge Flue Systems. Today we are known as A1 Flue Systems. We are still operating from our headquarters which are based in Boughton, near Ollerton, Nottinghamshire where all our manufacturing takes place. Our offices and manufacturing plant have been purpose built and comprise of over 54,000 square ft of workshop space which houses the latest in precision engineering machinery and equipment. Key projects for the 90’s for Fox’s Music, John Collier Shop, Meadowhall, Channel Tunnel, Eurostar, The Gerkin & Millennium Stadium Cardiff, to name just a few.
2000’s
A1 in the Noughties.
Our workforce continues to uphold our values of excellence, pride, passion and precision to ensure our clients receive a dedicated service from the start of a project right through to completion and aftercare. We work with a range of clients in the private, commercial, distribution and defence industries, and most of our work comes from loyal clients who appreciate our ability to deliver projects & stock on time and with the expert knowledge.

A1 Flue Systems celebrated 50 years in business.
Over 50 years A1 Flue Systems has been involved in many prestigious chimney and flue projects including The Shard, The Olympics, Fenchurch Street, St Pancras Chambers, Kings Cross Station, Bank of England, Chester Zoo, Leadenhall Building, Twickenham, Tottenham, Emirates and Wembley Stadium to name but a few and won a string of national, trade, and regional awards., with over 1000 years of collective experience we continue to strive and succeed within our industry and beyond.
Dec 2023 - Present
A1 became part of the Expo Inox Spa Group.
With Expo Inox we will be investing in our people, production, technologies and logistics, helping us to grow further in the Commercial segment and to expand into the Domestic market. Exploiting the perfect synergy between the great tradition and competence of A1 in the commercial market and on the ‘know how and products’ of Expo Inox in the Domestic market.
